Obituary for Johanna Maria "Mieke" Belko (Noordman)

Johanna Maria "Mieke"  Belko (Noordman)
Belko, Johanna Maria “Mieke” (Nee Noordman) - May 28, 1938 – May 18, 2014 – Mieke Belko (formerly Mieke Howard) passed away peacefully at the Lakeridge Health Oshawa with her family at her side. Mieke was born and raised in Raalte, The Netherlands, the fourth of five children, emigrating to Canada in 1950 and settling in Apple Hill, Ontario. Mieke spent most of her life living in Oshawa, excepting 1974 – 1977 when her family resided in Deseronto, Ontario. She loved music and enjoyed listening to Roger Whittaker, Nana Mouskouri, and especially Johnnie Ray. She also got great pleasure in the last few years from knitting caps for cancer and neo natal patients at the hospital. Mieke is survived by her children with the late William L. Howard: Paul (Debbie) Howard of Red Deer, AB, Cindy (Ray) Noble of Napanee, ON, Judy (Ray) Charron of Innisfail, AB, Lisa Howard of Oshawa, ON, Lori (Frank) Puglisevich of Courtice, ON, Bill (Joanne) Howard of Oshawa, ON, and Lee Howard of Whitby, ON. She is also survived by her grandchildren Megan, Candace, Kal, Lane, Ryan, Robert, Michael, Janalyn, Joseph, Zach, Tom, Jackie and Evie, her great grandchildren Ciara and Anika, her sisters Freda McKenna and Gerda Van Gestel, her brother Joseph (Cheri) Noordman, foster sister Hermien Lelieveld, and sister in law Teresa Noordman. She is predeceased by her parents, Fred and Mary Noordman, and her brother Tony Noordman. The family also wishes to express great thanks to the Stroke Unit and Supportive Care Unit of Lakeridge Health in Oshawa for their excellent care of Mieke during her last days. Resting at the ARMSTRONG FUNERAL HOME, 124 King Street East, Oshawa. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at St. Mary of the People Church on Thursday May 22, 2014 at 11 a.m. Memorial donations to Lakeridge Health Oshawa would be appreciated, and may be made along with condolences by visiting www.armstrongfuneralhome.net.
