Obituary for Dr. Charles Sandwith Campbell MD

Dr. Charles Sandwith Campbell MD
Campbell, Dr. Charles Sandwith – March 1, 1925 – November 17, 2014

Died peacefully in his 90th year at Lakeridge Health, Whitby. Charles
leaves behind his loving children John (Jerrolyn), James (Karen) and
Susan (Sean) and grandchildren Alexander, Nicolas, Olivia and Caroline.
Predeceased by his beloved wife of 43 years, Dolores Frances. Charles
was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba and educated at Trinity College
School, Port Hope, Ontario, and the University of Manitoba Medical
School. After graduation, Charles moved to Toronto and trained at St.
Michael’s Hospital where he met Dolores. In 1956, they married and
moved to Oshawa, where they raised their family. He practiced surgery
at the Oshawa General Hospital for over 40 years where he also served
as Chief of Staff. Charles had music in his bones. From his years in the
school choir at TCS, to the “Merry Meds” at university, to the choir at
St. George’s Memorial Anglican Church where he sang for over 50
years. Charles’ voice resonated wherever he went. He was also a
regular lead actor in various musical productions of the Oshawa Choral
Society. A passionate golfer and gardener, Charles left a lasting
impression on those he met. Always the perfect gentleman, he led
through his character – his integrity and his commitment to his family
and his profession. With his dear brother Graham, they built adjacent
cottages in Muskoka, where their two families passed blissful summers
and built strong relationships.
Thanks to the staff at Lakeridge Health Whitby, and in particular
Michelle Acorn. Special thanks also to Trish, Marilyn, Cassandra,
Khadie, Debbie, Carol, Rose, Courtney, Lindsey, Lindsey, Dora, Andrea,
and Julie, PSWs who spent countless hours with Charles at various
stages over the past four years.
Visitation to be held on Thursday, November 20, 2014 from 2 to 4 pm
and from 7 to 9 pm at Armstrong Funeral Home, 124 King Street East,
Oshawa. Funeral service to be held Friday, November 21, 11 am at St.
George’s Memorial Anglican Church, 51 Centre Street South, Oshawa.
In lieu of flowers, donations are requested to the Lakeridge Health
Foundation or a charity of choice.
