Obituary for Nick Nicholas

Nick Nicholas
Nicholas, Nick – December 18th, 1936 – October 30th, 2015 – Passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family, after a lengthy battle with lung cancer and kidney disease. Nick will forever be missed by his wife, of 56 years, Eleanor and by his children Scott and Lisa(Doug). Beloved Poppy of Michael, Ashley(Jordan), Brandon, Nick, Darien and great granddaughter Sydney. Nick was predeceased by his parents Nick & Mary Nicholas and his brothers Terry & Gerry(Barb). He is survived by siblings Alice, Dan(Nancy), Ron (Olga) and Marie as well as many more extended family including nephews and his special niece Monica(Chris). Nick was an avid outdoorsman prior to his illnesses and loved spending time fishing & hunting either at the trailer or the cottage. He was a spectacular gardener of which we all benefited whether it was with fruits & vegetables to take home or his beautiful roses to admire. In his younger days he loved to either play or coach baseball and could often be found at a diamond most nights of the week. But most importantly he was a family man who was happiest when his kids & grandkids were around. Whether it was a turkey dinner or just a swim in the pool they brought a smile to his face. Nick was a retired GM Canada employee of 31years. He was also a master of fixing and building anything. Whether it was the addition to their house and other renovation jobs or tinkering with anything that had a motor, he could always get it fixed. He also shared these skills with many others, particularly with his son and son-in-law and tried to be patient when they didn’t pick the skills up as quickly. Thanks to all his friends & neighbours for their on-going support through the years. An extra big thanks, for their care and compassion, goes to the teams at Lakeridge Health Dialysis Unit B, his many doctors and nurses and especially the home care nurses and the many PSW’s that were there to support him and the family. A special thanks to Kelly Richards for her help & support to the entire family particularly during his transition back home from the hospital. Visitation will be held at Armstrong Funeral Home, 124 King Street East, Oshawa on Monday November 2nd from 2pm-4pm and 7pm-9pm. The funeral will be held the chapel on Tuesday November 3rd at 11am. Donations can be made in Nick’s memory to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Lakeridge Health Dialysis Unit.
