VIPOND, Claude Hibbert M.D., F.R.C.S.(Edin)(C), F.R.C.P. (C) - It is with sadness that the family announces the passing of Claude on October 18, 2016. Beloved husband of Marion Alderdice and predeceased by wife Joy Galbraith. Lovingly remembered by children Pamela (Doug Elias), Dorothy (Jayant Lele), Duncan (Elizabeth Carson), Alison, Malcolm and stepsons Eric Alderdice (Ella Wallis), Michael and by grandchildren Christopher and Joy Elliott, Abhijeet and Amod Lele, Nicholas and Catherine Vipond, Margot Haworth and Megan Bailey, Cameron, Shane, Aidan and Briar Alderdice and great grandchildren Alex and Isabella Lele, Ivy Elliott, Lily and Beckett Haworth and Maggie Vipond. Predeceased by sister Shirley and brother Denzil.
He was born April 11, 1921 in Ottawa, graduated M.D. Queen’s, served overseas with R.C.A.M.C. Post grad leading to a F.R.C.S. Edinburgh and Canada. He practiced with Oshawa Clinic and at Oshawa General Hospital until 1974 except for two years in Malaya (foreign aid) and two years with East African Flying Doctor Service (CUSO) and missions to Haiti and St. Lucia. He then pursued post graduate leading to F.R.C.P. (C) Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation. Claude served as Medical Director of Rehabilitation Services Oshawa General Hospital until retirement in 1985.
Past President Canadian Association of Medical Clinics, Ontario Medical Association (Life Member). Was active in the Oshawa Board of Education (Chairman), three times Liberal federal candidate, Canadian Club (President), Unitarian Fellowship (President), Rotary Club (Paul Harris Fellow), Oshawa Little Theatre. Was an avid Bridge player and enjoyed summers at the cottage.
Claude Vipond was a loving husband, a dedicated father and grandfather, a capable and compassionate physician, esteemed in his community and a world citizen.
Relatives and friends may call at the Armstrong Funeral Home, 124 King Street East, Oshawa on Monday October 24th from 7-9pm. Memorial Service to Celebrate Claude’s life on Tuesday October 25th at 1pm in the chapel of the funeral home.
