Obituary for Mark (Howard) Hines

Mark (Howard) Hines
December 8, 1952 – September 11, 2017
On September 11, 2017, the world lost another rock star. It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Mark on Monday September 11, 2017 at Lakeridge Health Oshawa at the age of 64. Thank you to the ICU department for their excellent care and kindness. Beloved husband of Beverley Pond, son of Barbara Hines and predeceased by father Howard Hines, Mark is survived by daughters Rachel (Dave) and Rebecca (Christian); stepchildren Greg, Eddie (Dawn) and Brenda (Gary); Michael and family, and grandchildren James, Desiree, Jacob, Jessie, Emily, Joshua, Mikayla, Anthony and Archer. Mark was a brother to Joanne Budreski (Chipper), James (Dianne), Hugh (Mary) and Rob (Suzy) Hines, and brother-in-law to Judy (Jim) and David (Michele). Mark was born and raised in Saint John, New Brunswick. In the era of flower power he left home as a teenager in pursuit of adventure. Mark hitchhiked across Canada and settled in Ontario where he made his home and reared his family in Oshawa. Mark was known for his lively, but down-to-earth personality, and he was frequently the life of the party. He was also passionate about rock ‘n roll and loved playing the guitar as well as spending time in the great outdoors. He will be remembered for his warmth, kindness and most of all his sense of humour. In 2016 he retired from the Durham District School Board after 32 years of service as Chief Custodian. Mark will be dearly missed by his friends, colleagues and especially his family. However, in the words of Neil Young “It’s better to burn out than to fade away…” Rest well, you deserve it, we will carry your love with us forever. On Sunday September 24, 2017, a visitation will be held between 1:00pm and 1:30pm followed promptly by a service and reception at Kedron United Church, 1995 Ritson Road North, Oshawa, ON, L1H 7K5. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation.
