Condolence: I met George when I took a night course at Durham College that he was teaching. Four of us, plus 'Dr. George' formed a connection and became good friends. After class we would either go to Kelsey's on Simcoe St. or George would invite us back to his place. He was an amazing, kind and interesting man. I so enjoyed the time we spent together and I learned so much from such a wise friend. I will always remember you Dr. George. God Speed.

Condolence: Our deepest sympathies and condolences to George's family. He was our neighbour for more than 20 years. He always had the most fascinating stories to tell about his life and entertained each one of us at some time or another with his history. He was a sweetheart and we will miss him dearly. He will always be in our memories as we now have stories about him to tell.

Condolence: Dianne and I had the good fortune to have known George for almost 50 years having worked for him at the alcohol treatment unit in Whitby from its' beginning. We quickly realized that he was a very "Special Person" who was more than willing to initiate new treatment concepts and challenge any long standing system rules that he felt were not respectful of our patients. We are proud to say that we remained friends of George throughout his many years in Canada.

Condolence: As a kid I lived at Adelaide Ave and Park Rd. Everyday I would walk to school with Dr. Blake on his way to Lakeridge Health Oshawa. He was kind and generous with his time. Well into his late sixties he rode a blue and white Vespa scooter and would wave at me as he rode to work. I always had a small motorbike or project and many times he stopped to see what I was tinkering on in my parents garage. I last saw him at Club Caribe in Oshawa 20 years ago and he remembered me straight away. He was still driving an older GM station wagon and we laughed about his Vespa. I am in my mid 40's now and I will remember Dr. Blake for many more years. The world could sure use a few more people like Dr. Blake.

Condolence: I have fond memories of George from the time when we both served on the Board of Inquiry under the Police Services Act in the early 1990's. He brought wisdom, grace, and yes, storytelling! My condolences to his family and all those who will miss him.

Condolence: Very sad to hear about the passing of my dear friend George. He had such an enthusiasm for life, and has remarked on numerous occasions how grateful he was for all the gifts bestowed upon him in his life. But little did he realize that he was a gift to all whom got to know him, and be in the company of his warm and sunny disposition. He had the ability to look at all things with humour, a quick wit, and with grace and compassion. His stories have kept me entertained, and wanting to hear more. He was a source of vast knowledge on Bhuddism and other beliefs. I will definitely miss him. My sincere condolences to his family.

Condolence: I will miss hearing Jataka tales told with his gentle Jamaican accent. George was a true "mensch" (Sanskrit - well, actually Yiddish - for a truly generous human being). Buddha will be dancing to George's beat soon enough.

Condolence: I met George when I was an xray student at OGH. We have been neighbours of George's for many years and have had the privilege of getting to know him and hear about all the wonderful things he did in his life. He talked about his family often and was so proud of his boys. I have to say that he was a very kind caring and compassionate man. We will miss the conversations out on the driveway. My condolences to the family and George we are honoured to have known you. You will be missed.

Condolence: I was very saddened to hear the news of Dr. Blake's passing. I have known him many years as he was a patient at the dental office that I work at. I quite enjoyed his visits, always a story to tell us. I looked forward to the roses he would bring from his garden in the summer to place at my desk. He had such a positive view on the world and you couldn't help but be in a great mood in his presence. A lovely man. Thoughts, prayers, and heartfelt condolences to his family.

Condolence: George was a dear friend and fellow storyteller for many years. We met first in England as I was leaving school to go to college then many years later in a Canadian story circle. We told together many times. He was quite unique as a person and as a teller. I cannot believe we'll never hear that resonant voice or the beat of his drum again. Such a wise and intelligent man with the quirkiest sense of humour and yet, so human! He touched many lives and lived his own to the fullest. Our sense of loss though deep cannot possibly match that of family. My heartfelt condolences.

Condolence: I had the pleasure of being introduced to George by a dear friend of mine. I would get to tag along to Georges house and have tea with him and he would sing to us and share many wonderful stories about his life. George lived a unique and most inspiring life from my eyes. I always cherished and felt such peace when I would get to see him. I was so happy when my little boy got to meet him I just felt that my little guy should get to meet this truly beautiful human being. May we all have tea with you again some day George and bang our drums. Much love and peace to your family. Christine

Condolence: George was a dear friend, a mentor and a remarkable storyteller. DFS circle will forever be incomplete without his presence, his drum and the stories he pulled out randomly from thin air. I pray for his family and friends to have the strength to bear this loss. George always said that life was overflowing with happiness. Today I do not agree with him because saying goodbye is proving to be very painful.

Condolence: Oh, how I will miss my dear, dear friend George. He was a wonderful mentor and friend to me and many of us through the Durham Folklore Storytellers (Formerly Durham Folklore Society) and has left a legacy of love and respect, and his amazing drumming and stories will never be forgotten. As George always said, "God Morning" no matter what time of day it was, he made me feel the newness of the day upon me was special. Life was precious in his eyes. My deepest condolences to his family, whom he so proudly talked about if asked. Especially proud of his granddaughter.
