Obituary for Stella Wielgos

Stella Wielgos
Wielgos, Stanislawa “Stella” - passed away peacefully on Thursday May 3rd, 2018 just a few days before her 94th birthday.
She is survived by her husband Joseph of over 70 years their son Ed(Brenda), three granddaughters Alison (Andrew),
Hayley (Gary), Brittney and four great grandchildren Alexandra, Maddie, Luke and Stella. Stella was born on May 8, 1924 in Opoczno, Poland. She was separated from her family during the Second World War. She and Joe were married in 1947 in Germany while waiting to emigrate to a new life. Her wedding dress was made from the silky cloth of a parachute. Their wedding rings were made from melting and molding the silver from a 5 Deutschmark coin. They waited in Germany for departure for their new home. Originally they were destined for Australia but an opportunity arose to go to Canada sooner and it was a country that they knew a little bit about since some of their friends immigrated here. They arrived in Halifax and worked off their travel debt on a farm near Sackville, NB. Through their friends, they learned of the opportunities in Ontario. They first moved to Camp Borden and finally to Oshawa where they remained ever since. Stella was a volunteer at St. Vincent’s Kitchen and at St. Hedwig’s Church. She loved their home of over 60 years, her family, gardening and helping the community doing volunteer work. Best of all, she loved being "Bobcha" to her granddaughters and great grandchildren. She was always happy, smiling and accommodating right to her last day on Earth. A Funeral service will be held on Saturday May 5th at 1pm in the chapel of Armstrong Funeral Home, 124 King Street East, Oshawa. Followed by a private family interment service at Resurrection Cemetery. Visitation will be held 1hour prior to the service in the Chapel. For online condolences please visit armstrongfh.ca
