Obituary for Alexander Edwards

Alexander Edwards
Edwards, Dr. Alexander Charles passed peacefully on Friday May 4th, 2018 in the presence of his family.
Alexander was born in Indian Head Saskatchewan on September 14th, 1923, the only child of Hilda and Charles Edwards.
Alex began his post-secondary education attending Balfour Technical School in Regina before joining the Royal Canadian Navy in 1943. He served as an Ordinance Officer until the end of WWII. Following his service in the Navy, he attended the University of Saskatchewan and was soon accepted into the Faculty of Dentistry at the University of Toronto in 1952.
Alex opened his practice in Oshawa and continued his passion in dentistry until his retirement in 1990. Alex also loved fishing with his buddies, bridge, woodworking and maintaining his home and yard at “366” for 60 years. Alex could always spin a few stories, share some laughs, and recite any manner of prose for his companions at the Oshawa Golf Club where he was a long-time member.
Alex is lovingly remembered by his 4 children; Leslie and (Fred Blumas), Shelly and (Mike Gaudio), Jackie Murphy, Paul and (Carrie Edwards). As well as his 6 grandchildren; Leah and (Sean McCarthy), Lauren Blumas and (Brenton Szabatura); Ali Gaudio, Rachel Gaudio, Reed Murphy, Quinn Edwards and his 3 great grandchildren; William, June, and Nora McCarthy. He was predeceased by his beloved wife Norma (nee Campbell) in 1981.
As well, he is survived by his loving companion, Marjorie McCabe and her family; Robert and Carla McCabe and their children Nathan and David; Michael McCabe and his children Jacob and Ashlynn.
Alex embodied a love for life and appreciated life’s offerings and opportunities. His life set an example of the joy life can bring when done so with fearless enthusiasm, humour, and a twinkle in one’s eyes.
His, was a life well-lived.
Friends may call at the Armstrong Funeral Home, on Tuesday May 8th from 6-8pm, and Wednesday May 9th from 1pm until service time in the chapel of the funeral home at 2pm. Interment Mount Lawn Memorial Gardens, Whitby. Memorial Donations to the War Amps or the charity of choice would be greatly appreciated by Alex’s family.
