Obituary for Antonia "Tina" Jaworski (Petruk)

Antonia "Tina" Jaworski (Petruk)
JAWORSKI, Antonia (Tina) - It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved Mom/Baba, Antonia (Tina) Jaworski, at Lakeridge Health Oshawa on Saturday May 21, 2016 in her 92nd year. We are comforted in knowing that she is reunited with our Dad, her husband of 67 years, Wasyl (Bill) Jaworski, who predeceased her May 12, 2014. Ever loving mother/mother-in-law to Ron and Irene, and John and Lynda. Most wonderful and caring Baba to Daniel, Jenna and Ella, who felt her boundless love from the day they were born. No one had a kinder heart or happier spirit, worked harder, or gave more to everyone around her. She lived with a spirit of joy and gratitude that the rest of us can only hope to approach.
Antonia left home as a shy teenager and survived through the challenges of Communism, WWII and Displaced Persons Camps. After the war, Wasyl and Antonia chose to make a new life in Canada with their young son Ron. First settling in Timmins, and then moving to Oshawa, she made friends easily everywhere she went.
Antonia was a fabulous and passionate cook who loved nothing more than preparing and sharing meals with family and friends. She made the best perogies and cabbage rolls this side of the Atlantic, and many of us will be missing those “care packages” for years to come. She continued to help (even at the age of 91) with the preparation of hundreds of dozens of perogies at Lviv Ukrainian Hall every Tuesday morning. A proud member of St. George the Great Martyr Ukrainian Catholic Church, Antonia belonged to the Women’s League and was a constant with the league and church for all occasions.
She loved to sew, and this led to her working at Chrysler Canada sewing for almost twenty years where she made and kept many close friends. She also loved to plant and work in her garden. We all enjoyed many pots of borsch thanks to her “green thumb”, and her beautiful roses were her pride and joy.
Antonia was a kind and compassionate soul, filled with a warm generosity of spirit, and she will be sorely missed by all whose lives were touched by hers.
Thanks to Fr. Dmytro Hancharyk, family physician Dr. E.R. Brankston, eye specialist Dr. Jason Noble, and PCC Claudia Corriveau with PSW Melinda. Special thanks to Dr. Ngo and the wonderfully compassionate caregivers at Lakeridge Health Supportive Care 4F.
Friends may call at ARMSTRONG FUNERAL HOME on Wednesday May 25th from 2:00-4:00pm and 7:00-9:00pm, with Panachyda at 7:30pm. Funeral Service at St. George the Great Martyr Ukrainian Catholic Church (Lviv and Albert) on Thursday May 26th at 10:00am. Interment at Sts. Wolodymyr and Olha Ukrainian Cemetery in Courtice. If desired, in lieu of flowers, memorial donations to St. George the Great Martyr Ukrainian Catholic Church would be gratefully accepted. For online condolences visit www.armstrongfuneralhome.net
