Obituary for Walter Maynard "Bud"Shaw

Walter Maynard "Bud"Shaw
Dr. Walter Maynard (Bud) Shaw
Nov 19, 1923 – April 27, 2018
Maynard, known to friends and family as Bud, was born in St. Catherines, Prince Edward Island, where he was raised on the family farm Strathnairn by his parents Walter Russell Shaw, former premier of Prince Edward Island and Margaret MacKenzie. A lifelong scholar, Bud obtained his Doctor of Medicine at Dalhousie University, and Master of Science at McGill University, where he also obtained his first Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada Specialty Certificate in Internal Medicine, followed years later by his second, in Nuclear Medicine. He had a long and productive career as a physician, was partner at the Oshawa Clinic, was the first Medical Director of the Oshawa General Hospital’s (now Lakeridge Health) nuclear medicine laboratory, and was Chief of Medical Staff at the Oshawa General Hospital from 1981- 1986.
In 1950 he made the best decision of his life, marrying his beloved wife, Ethel, who sadly predeceased him in Oct. 2017. Bud is survived by his beloved daughters, Patricia (late Rob), Judy, and Jane (Phil), cherished grandchildren, James, Katie (Rob), Matthew and Kenzie, and by his dear sister Eileen. He is predeceased by his wife Ethel and sister Norma (Hughie).
Walter Maynard Shaw was a modest man, but one of the best, a thoughtful, kind man of superior intellect and integrity.
A memorial celebration will be held at the Armstrong Funeral Home, 124 King Street East, Oshawa, on Thursday, May 3rd, 3 – 5 pm. Memorial donations are appreciated, to Dying With Dignity, or to charity of one’s choice.
